Synopsis

Some 15,000 Holocaust survivors remained in Germany after WWII. How could they stay? Jealous of the Birds was born from this pivotal question. Filmmaker Jordan Bahat begins this quest with a desire to understand the choices made by his own grandparents. In interviews with survivors, their children and other Germans, Bahat explores what it means for victims to live among perpetrators and for children of those perpetrators to deal with the guilt borne from the crimes of their parents. The film becomes a conversation about the effects of these relationships on future generations and the human capacity to confront and rebuild.

JEALOUS OF THE BIRDS reminds us that the choices of the past create legacies that play out across families, nations, cultures and generations.

Director

Jordan Bahat

Jordan Bahat was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. He graduated from the School of Cinematic Arts film production program at the University of Southern California with an emphasis in directing and editing under Academy Award winning editor and screenwriter, Robert C. Jones.

As a director, Bahat has created long and short-form advertisements and music videos for clients ranging from Hewlett-Packard. Electronic Arts, Atlantic Records, Universal Music Group, and ABC Television Studios; to name a few.

His feature credits include work in every facet of filmmaking, from writing to visual effects. Bahat got his start as a teenager, assistanting legendary producers Dino and Raffaella De Laurentiis on large-scale international co-productions The Last Legion (Tunisia/Slovakia) and The Forbidden Kingdom (China).

These overseas experiences foreshadowed the production of Jealous of the Birds, Bahat's debut documentary feature produced remotely in Germany and Poland.

Bahat's Commercial and Music Video work is produced and represented by production company Toy Human in the US and by Stamp Films in the UK.
