Coming To Light A self-taught and very successful society photographer in early 20th Century Seattle, Edward S. Curtis dedicated most of his life and career to the chronicling of Native American life before it was lost in forced assimilation. This insightful documentary by Anne Makepeace interweaves the story of Curtis's life with the results of his work, and through it, we see the world he sought to preserve. Many of the descendants of those tribal members who sat for Curtis appear in the film; through their voices these old, sepia-toned photographs evoke their ancestors' lives, inspiring them to continue their traditions.
