Golden Pomegranate, The
Dan Turgeman
102 minutes

Based on the novel, THE POMEGRANATE PENDANT, and introducing Israeli singing sensation Noa, THE GOLDEN POMEGRANATE brings us for the first time the untold story of the first North African Jewish pioneers in Israel. Mazal, a young girl from Yemen, uses her extraordinary strength and courage to grow and persevere despite the violent conditions in the Holy Land. In a time of patriarchic dominance, Mazal is one of the few pioneering women to lead her family through those difficult, historic times while remaining true to her beliefs. THE GOLDEN POMEGRANATE captures Israel's rebirth, focusing in Jerusalem, through four generations of a Yemenite family, from the late 19th century through Israel's historic fight for independence.

"Lovely, beautiful, a most engrossing tale. A highly instructive film that is both saddening and uplifting."
- Richard Kluger, Social Historian, Pulitzer Prize Winner
