Synopsis

More than one hundred Jewish musicians fleeing Nazism took refuge in Argentina, where they resumed their careers in the country’s theaters, orchestras, radio stations, conservatories, tango venues, and film studios. Musicologist Silvia Glocer researches their lives, recovers their works, and interviews their descendants. Once she has gathered all the pieces of the puzzle, we see Glocer organize a grand concert in homage to these all-but-forgotten figures. The film tells a story that is practically unknown to the general public, making it a novel contribution to the discussion of Nazism and its complex relationship with the art world—whose consequences extend far beyond the borders of Europe.

Director

Iván Cherjovsky holds a doctorate in anthropology from the University of Buenos Aires and is a permanent faculty member at the Universidad Nacional de Quilmes. A member of the Latin American Jewish Studies Association (LAJSA), he is the author of several academic books and articles on Jewish-Argentine history.

As a filmmaker, he co-directed and produced the documentary The Jerusalem of Argentina (2017), which won two international awards. The film explores the memory of the last descendants of the Jewish gauchos, who began arriving in Argentina as settlers of the Jewish Colonization Association in the late 19th century. He is also the producer, director, and co-editor of the documentary The Exile of the Musicians (2024). Currently, he is working on a new documentary about children in hiding during the Nazi era.
