Synopsis

WELCOME TO YIDDISHLAND offers an upbeat, witty, and timely exploration of a global community of artists rediscovering and revitalizing the endangered Yiddish language through progressive and provocative creative works. As we journey through Yiddishland—not a homeland, but a heartland without borders—we travel across continents, from Melbourne to Berlin, New York to Haifa, meeting a diverse array of individuals who find solace, identity, and inspiration in Yiddish language and culture.

Director

Ros Horin

Ros recently received an OAM on the Australian Honours list for her 40+ years of service as a documentary filmmaker and trailblazing independent theatre director.

Ros graduated from the prestigious Drama Centre London and has directed productions for most major Australian theatre companies. As Artistic Director of the Griffin Theatre for over 12 years, she established its reputation as an Australian Writers’ Theatre. Her theatre career highlights include Speaking in Tongues, which toured extensively and was later developed into the film Lantana. Ros has since gained international recognition as an award-winning film writer and director, with her first two feature documentaries Baulkham Hills African Ladies Troupe (2016 – SBS) and Rosemary’s Way (2020 – SBS), both of which screened at MIFF and the Sydney Film Festival.
