Synopsis

We’ve Been Here Before: What the Punk Scene Can Teach Us About White Supremacy produced with Reboot Studios, is a deep dive into the punk subculture that fought back against White Nationalists and neo-Nazis, and the lessons they have to share with those fighting for an inclusive democracy today. This short documentary connects the dots between mass shootings, antisemitism, and the rise of hate violence in America by following Eric Ward, an expert on the relationship between authoritarian movements and hate violence who first encountered these forces as an anti-racist skinhead in the punk rock subculture.

Director

Jacob Kornbluth

An Emmy-winning director of TV, film, and theater, Jacob has a long history of blending entertainment with social justice issues. His work on the issue of widening economic inequality, particularly through his collaboration with Robert Reich, was instrumental in harnessing the energy of the “Occupy Wall Street” movement and elevating the issue of economic inequality in the national consciousness. His film Inequality for All received a Special Jury Prize for Excellence in Filmmaking at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and went on to become the highest-grossing issue documentary in seven years. Bernie Sanders personally championed the film, screening it across Vermont and urging every citizen to see it. Senator Sanders later incorporated language and concepts from the film into his breakout 2016 presidential campaign, during which he won 23 primaries. The film was ultimately screened in all 50 state capitols, at the White House, and was commercially released in over 300 cities nationwide.
