Synopsis
Daylight Follows tells the story of two extraordinary men, Irving Roth and Rick Carrier, whose lives converge during the liberation of Buchenwald concentration camp. Roth, a Czechoslovakian Jewish boy who endured Auschwitz and a brutal death march, is fighting to stay alive when Carrier, an American soldier who survived the Normandy invasion, encounters him at the liberated camp.
After the war, their paths cross again in New York City, where an extraordinary friendship begins. Through their firsthand testimonies, the film traces their separate experiences of war and persecution, their remarkable encounter at liberation, and the lifelong bond that followed. A powerful story of survival, friendship, and the resilience of the human spirit.
Director
Paul Mortlock GBCT is a multi-award-winning Director of Photography with over 20 years of experience. A full member of the Guild of British Camera Technicians (GBCT), he splits his time between Manchester and London. He specializes in high-end commercials, narrative drama, music videos, brand films and automotive projects. Most notable for Sons of Ecstasy (HBO Max), Departures (UK & US Theatrical – BIFA long listed), Housewarming (Raindance Winner / BIFA Nominated), ‘How to wash a body’ Sunderland Best short winner / best cinematography at Horizons FF and commercial campaigns for LEGO (Build for Real), McLaren, and Monster Energy, habitat and Betfred.
